Twelve candidates from the West Bengal have passed the UPSC Civil Services, 2019. Mainak Ghosh secured the 31st rank, followed by Saurabh Suman Yadav at the 55th position. The next best rank is Sushant Singh’s, at 189. The other nine from the institute are Avinash Rai at 219, Joydeep Moitra at 295, Maheswar Maji at 326, Rini Choudhury at 396, Md Sarfaraz Alam at 488, Sandip Garai at 516, Sayantan Ghosh at 539, Debjyoti Barman at 647 and Santosh Jaiswal at 758. The West Bengal Topper Mainak Ghosh is from the Civil Service Study Centre (CSSC) in the Bengal government’s only IAS training centre.
The Examination was held in September,2019 and the interviews for personality tests held in February-August. About 8 lakh candidates had applied for UPSC CSE(Prelims) 2019. Total 829 candidates have passed the exam. Most of the qualified candidates (304) are from the general category. The candidates have been recommended for Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among other civil services.
